7-11 SAM

The new clerk at my 7-11 is a single mom named Sam. She has a 9 year old daughter and a 6 year old son. A couple weeks back, when I went up to the counter I asked Sam what was wrong...she just didn't seem like herself. She started to cry but said that she would be fine.
Here is the story. She lives in a motel down the road. She was engaged but they just broke it off. And her son has been diagnosed as Bi-Polar with ADHD. He is getting more out of control and can be violent. Sometimes she has to leave work to go sit with him in the lunchroom because the school is requiring parental supervision for him. Yesterday, he was at work with her. Sam told me she would be driving him to school in a bit because he had been suspended from the bus. And one more suspension and he may be out altogether.
Sam is pretty much on her own. She has family but they are not supportive. She wants to find a better job
I asked Sam to let me know if there was anything I could help her with. I also promised her that I would be praying. I asked her permission to share her story with you because I know that many of you will "pray your guts out" for her and her kids. She welcomes your prayers.

Kind of puts missing my hair appointment into perspective - huh?
Sam is on my list, and I will be one of those praying my guts out for her and her precious son.

Let her know that if her son attends public school, under state law they must provide care for him. MUST! She might have to push for it, but they must. will be praying

I'm with Margie. It sounds like Sams's son might be eligible to have an aide with him in his classes. These aids help with organization, keeping on task, and are a communicator between the student and parents. The state will pay for this, but he has to be evaluated by the school district. If his teachers are aware of his problems, they will probably be more than happy to fill out forms endorsing the decision to have an aide with him. Where do you you think Sam's son goes to school? Garden City?

praying of course! I know first hand that single moms with no support system are in a desperate situation. How is that you know everyone at your 7-11??:)

She probably is a regular there. We get to know our customers pretty well and their stories and share in return. Its the little things like that, that make a boring mundane job become something of the heart. I have a few customers I can honestly say I just love them to pieces and look forward to seeing them. It was like that the first time I worked at 711 too.

wow, she sure has her hands full. I know it is hard being in her situation, only God can give her the strength and the favor she needs right now.

my mom used to teach kids with adhd and whatnot and from the stories she has, i cant imagine what a struggle it must be for the parents. one of them nearly broke her arm once. and to add insult to injury, she was given a very unattractive sling.
i'll tell her to pray for them!

(i'm all behind on blogs again, as you can see!)
